NEW** BEGIN ACCRUING CE credits in 2014. RN’s who renew in 2014, need 30 hours in 2016; RNs who renew in 2015, need 30 hours in 2017.

LPNs (Renew in ODD years), they need 20 hours when they renew in 2017

Starting on July 1, 2017, all LPNs and RNs may start completing one of the learning activity options in order to renew his/her license by June 30, 2019. You will have 2 years to complete the learning activity you choose.

To renew an LPN or RN license, a licensee needs to accomplish at least two of any of the learning activities (in the Practice, Education, or Professional engagement sections) within the two 2-year renewal period

Renewal is every year. Requirements include:

• One time only:
  • 3 hrs Domestic Violence
  • 1.5 hrs Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma
• Every 10 years:
  • 2 hrs HIV/AIDS

Determined by the number of hours worked.

Minimum of 5 contact hours per year if RN employer verified practice is 1,600 hours or more during current year (10 months at 40 hours per week)

Minimum of 10 contact hours per year if RN employer verified practice is between 160 hours to 1,599 hours during current year

Minimum of 15 contact hours per year if RN is self-employed, unemployed, or employer verified practice is 159 hours or less during current year

Includes 1 hr Pain & Symptom Management (every renewal). Course Pain: Assessment and Management meets the requirement.

No more than 12 credit hours shall be earned during a 24-hour period for online continuing education courses.

Nurses must complete Science of Infection Control Principles training every 4 years.
This course also available to Physicians, Registered Physician Assistants and Credentialed/Affiliated Professionals.

F/T, P/T 15 hours; Non-working 30 Hrs

Includes 1 hr Ohio Nursing Law & Standards of Practice (valid through Aug 2016) (every renewal)

• verify 520 hours of employment a year, or
• *complete 24 hours of continuing education, or
• verify current certification in a nursing specialty area, or
• complete a board approved refresher course, or
• complete 6 academic semester credits hours of coursework at the current level of licensure or higher.

All courses are Type 1 credit

1. at least 2 hours of CE relating to nursing jurisprudence and ethics before the end of every third two-year licensing period.
2. nurses whose practice includes older adult or geriatric populations to complete at least 2 hours of CE relating to older adult or geriatric populations or to maintain certification in the area of practice relating to older adult or geriatric populations
3. nurses who provide care to sexual assault survivors, regardless of the setting, to have at least 2 hours of CE basic forensic education course.

Determined by the numbers of hours worked.

• 400 hours of licensed practice, or
• 200 hours of licensed practice plus 15 contact hours, or
• 30 contact hours every two year licensing period.

Beginning August 1, 2013 start accruing hours for the August 1, 2015 renewal.
